Sustainability

As the largest hip hop festival in Europe, Openair Frauenfeld is not only committed to good music – our environment is just as important to us! As a major event, we see our responsibility for the sustainable development of our festival and, in addition to ecological and economic sustainability strategies, we also attach particular importance to the area of social sustainability. The continuous promotion, further development and implementation of the following sustainability measures are at the heart of this – for an environmentally conscious festival visit and a sustainable future for our environment.

Ecological sustainability

Ecological footprint

In order to minimize our ecological footprint, we are pursuing the goal of reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 50% by 2030.

Public transportation

Through partnerships with SBB, we offer all festival visitors a 20% discount on train tickets, offer free shuttle buses and extra trains and thus promote public transportation to the festival.

Using existing infrastructure

Wherever possible, we use the existing infrastructure on the Allmend in Frauenfeld for the event, such as existing fresh water and waste water pipes, in order to keep CO2 emissions from transportation as low as possible.

Versatile food offer

We have a lot vegetarian and vegan food options at our festival.

Planting trees annually

Every year, we plant numerous trees on the Frauenfeld Allee initiated by us to give something back to nature around our festival site.

Recycling

Through recycling systems for festival visitors as well as bars and food stands, we focus on waste separation and minimization throughout the festival.

Tent Depot System

The tent voucher deposit system of CHF 20 per tent is intended to ensure that the tents are taken back after the festival, thus helping to reduce the amount of waste.

Further measures

Other measures include automatic lever handle sets to reduce water consumption, a ban on physical flyers and the continuous reduction of plastic.

Economic sustainability

Green energy

We are increasingly focusing on green energy at the festival and are constantly developing concepts for green technologies.

Stay local

We buy locally whenever possible. Gastronomy businesses at the festival are sensitized to locality and promoted in it, in addition, our focus is on local food supply.

Saving electricity

Precise electricity consumption plans, efficient use and partial purchase of electricity from the fixed network provider have a cost and resource-saving effect on electricity use.

Minimizing food waste

By raising awareness and setting guidelines for catering establishments at Openair Frauenfeld, the focus is always on minimizing food waste.

Social sustainability

Awareness

Through our awareness concept, we promote social sustainability with specific, anti-discriminatory awareness communication and direct sensitization of employees and festival visitors. This is complemented by information, safety and advice services at the festival.

Gender equality

Gender equality is very important to us and is implemented at all times in internal company structures and as a guideline for the event.

Sensibilization

By raising awareness among employees, suppliers and partners, our sustainability strategy in the areas of economy, ecology and social sustainability is passed on and jointly implemented.

Inclusion and accessibility

We make our events as accessible and inclusive as possible. This includes continuously adapting the infrastructure and promoting integration and access for people with disabilities.

Sustainability communication

Through active sustainability communication, we promote a sustainable community that is encouraged to visit the festival sustainably before, during and after the event with information, suggestions and surveys. The focus is on activating various ways in which our visitors can support us in our sustainability strategy.
